Jet Plant team release dedicated World Mental Health Day video
Jet Plant Hire, a leading player in the highways and construction industry, has today (Thursday 10 October 2024) released a new video featuring employees from across its business to help raise awareness of mental health struggles in the construction sector.
More than one in seven UK adults say their mental health is currently either bad, or the worst it’s ever been. Mental health in construction has been called the ‘silent epidemic’. Last year The British Safety Council reported that workers in construction are nearly four times more likely to take their own lives than in other sectors.
More than half, or 56 per cent of safety (SHEQ) advisors in construction reported an increase in reported mental health issues in the past year, according to a recent Trades Union Congress (TUC) survey.
Jet is an industry leader, with a diverse customer base from across the UK. Its people range from seasoned operatives to new recruits, each bringing their own unique personality to the business. The company actively promotes discussion and support and hopes to influence the wider construction industry into removing any remaining stigma associated with talking about feelings.
The new video, which has been released across social media channels today, aims to highlight that anyone can struggle and that nobody is alone on World Mental Health Day. It outlines that it’s important to reach out to those around you.
Sean Witheford, Managing Director of Jet Plant, highlights the significance of addressing mental health in the construction sector. “At Jet we’re so proud to do things differently. We like to set the standard for the industry across all facets of our business and today, on World Mental Health Day, we want to reach out to everyone in the industry and just ask them to talk to those around them when they’re finding it hard.”
“We’re really proud of what we do for our people at Jet and we’re constantly looking at ways to further improve and support our people. But we can’t do it alone. It’s an industry wide issue and we must all tackle it together.
“The video initiative is a testament to the people we have here at Jet. We hope that it can make a small difference. If it impacts one person who is struggling, then it’s worth it!”
