Jet awarded BS OHSAS 18001 : 2007

Jet awarded BS OHSAS 18001 : 2007

January 2016 saw the culmination of many months of painstaking effort to achieve what is considered to be the ‘gold standard’ of Health and Safety credentials – the British Standards Institute’s 18001 OHSAS certificate. This certification means Jet have been rigorously tested, audited and judged to have sufficiently robust and well-resourced safety arrangements, which are embedded throughout the business, to join a select group of companies in our industry.

Sean Witheford (managing director) and Tina Greenhill (office manager) attended a presentation at the head offices of the British Standards Institute in Milton Keynes to receive their award at a presentation ceremony.

Sean commented: “It was a very proud moment to attend the ceremony at the bsi headquarters and receive our certification. Everyone in the business should take a share in that pride as none of it is achievable without the work and commitment of every employee. It’s not possible to gain certification without everyone demonstrating a high level of performance and understanding and I would like to say a big thank you for making what is a key strategic aim possible.”

Annual Employee Briefing 2016

Annual Induction Day

Every year, JET Plant Hire employees come together for the Annual Induction Day. As well as sharing the company’s strategy and financial goals for the year, company values and ethos are also reinforced. However, the main focus is on the improvements made to the firm’s Health and Safety systems, procedures and risk assessments as well as setting targets for the coming year, including reduced incident rates.

Led by managing director, Sean Witheford, the event is a platform where everyone has a voice to discuss issues related to working practices – it’s a chance to see where things we did went well and where there is room for improvement. The topics covered ranged from Dynamic Site Specific Risk Assessments to the driving standards of JET employees, with particular focus on those whose driving stands out as demonstrating consistent excellence. Prizes were given out for the least risk drivers as recorded on our vehicle trackers and for achieving the best mile per gallon performances on HGVs and vans.

JET takes Delivery of its 85th Planer

Jet Plant - 85th Road Planer

At the end of February 2016, JET Plant Hire Ltd proudly took delivery of its 85th road planer from Wirtgen. P85 is a tracked 1m machine (W100Fi) and increases the fleet size to 32 planers and our stable of tracked 1m machines to 11.

Mark Stanley (JET’s Maintenance Manager) said “The Woofer is proving to be the most popular choice of planer and is often specified by our customers, who understand that its blend of technology, stability and power make it an extremely versatile and reliable work horse”.

The W100Fi is one of the most advanced road planers on the market, bristling with innovative design and technology to enable the operator to achieve great results every time.

With a 1000mm wide milling drum, capable of milling to a depth of 320 mm in a single pass, the immensely powerful ‘Woofer’ can achieve extremely high outputs per shift. Conversely, this machine may be fitted (swiftly and easily) with a fine milling drum to enable the operator to leave the merest ‘key’ for thin surfacing / dressing.

Operating out of our Evesham depot, P85 will be making its mark (quite literally) all over the country!

Celebrating 25 years of Planing Britain’s Roads

  • Jet Plant Offices and Staff
  • First Contract - Isle of Wight 1989

Leading road planing company JET Plant Hire celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Sean Witheford, Managing Director said: “2015 marks a significant milestone in our company’s history. We are very proud of our trading heritage, of our continued commitment to innovation within the road planing industry and of our relationships with our customers and suppliers. We are equally proud of the outstanding achievement from our dedicated colleagues - a great reflection of the passion we share for customer service, quality and professionalism."

At the recent delivery of the latest 2.1m Wirtgen planer, Wirtgen gave a small presentation to Stuart Witheford, founder of the company and father of the current Managing Director, Sean, to celebrate not only the firm’s 25th anniversary but also the 80th Wirtgen planer purchased by JET Plant.

JET Plant is very much a family-run business with Sean’s brothers Scott and Brian also involved in the company. JET Plant now employs 114 people from its two operating bases in Evesham and Newton Abbott, many of whom have worked for the firm for over 15 years.

The first contract for JET Plant was on the Isle of Wight and over the last 25 years the firm has purchased 80 road planing machines. Extremely diverse jobs have been tackled with expertise and professionalism; from planing the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which, because of the weight limit, required the lightest planers working at no less than 25m apart to remove 120 tonnes of asphalt, right through to planing 270,000m² of asphalt on the M48 in eight weeks. Significant milestones over the last 25 years include the acquisition of three firms (Henson Plant Hire, Tetlaw and RW Prince Planing) and in 2010, having out-grown its office and yard in Badsey Road, the company moved into new premises in Vale Park in Evesham. The new offices, depot and workshop facility enabled the company to continue to expand and offer improved levels of customer service.

In 2014 a major £2.75m investment was made in new planers and tipper trailers, firmly establishing JET Plant as a leading company in the road planing industry with 30 planers in the fleet and setting it on a course for sustained growth and another 25 years of trading.
