Jet Plant’s planing services are supporting resurfacing work at Tesco stores throughout the Midlands as part of an ongoing nationwide project.
The Project
Since 2021, Jet Plant has worked closely with Associated Asphalt’s retail division to support ongoing resurfacing work at Tesco stores across the UK, including in the Midlands. The programme covers car parks, petrol stations and access roads, showcasing Jet Plant’s nationwide capabilities with consistent planing services in all regions.
The Approach
Jet Plant supports the overall project rollout, working as the sole planing partner for Associated Asphalt’s retail division.
All work is completed in phases to ensure that stores can be kept open throughout and an individual programme of work is devised for every store, each consisting of eight phases to minimise disruption for shoppers and store operations. Planing of the car park, petrol station and surrounding access roads typically takes around two weeks, but may be longer for larger stores. This includes working on Sunday nights to ensure entrance ways can be resurfaced and opened to the public again on the following day.
The relationship between the two companies was already strong from existing work with Associated Asphalt’s contracting division, but Jet Plant was awarded the contract because it is one of few planing contractors that can work across the UK, combining regional expertise with national capabilities.
The Results
Within in the first few stores, Jet Plant had demonstrated that it could maintain the same level of performance on sites across the country, working to strict deadlines to ensure the success of the ongoing project.

Jet Plant uses 1m planers to get the bulk out before using 350mm planers to work around the finer details including drains and kerbs. The 350mm also speeds up operation because it removes the need for manual trimming and cutting of joints.

Retail projects are particularly time-sensitive. If one phase of works at an individual store projects is not completed on time, it will impact all other phases and potentially other stores. Jet Plant shows flexibility and reliability in working to the client’s programme, offering the resources needed in the Midlands and across the UK to ensure all deadlines are met and adapt to programme changes if required. This is made possible with a dedicated client contact, to ensure close and consistent communication at all times.

At the time of writing, 23 Tesco stores have been completed throughout the UK, including a number in the Midlands region where Jet Plant is based. The programme continues with a target of two to three stores per month.
